Thank you for visiting

La Landelle Equestrian Centre¹s Internet site.

"La Landelle" lies between Baugé and Saumur at the crossroads of the forests of Chandelais and Monnaie.  Here, horse lovers, whether beginners or experienced riders, can go for rides in small groups of up to 6 people, according to level, in complete safety.

The Centre also offers lessons for beginners in the school, courses for all levels and can arrange for French Equestrian Federation (FFE) exams to be taken.  There are also one or two-day rides which will allow you to discover the countryside around Baugé and the Loire Valley.

Golden rules:  Safety   Fun    A passion for horses

The Equestrian Centre is open every weekend and also during the week by appointment.

We guarantee you a complete change of scenery in relaxing and secure surroundings.

The staff are fully qualified with national diplomas.

There is a choice of good accommodation close by.

Our method of teaching

Horse riding is a sport, a hobby and a relationship with a fantastic animal.

The Horse

The welcome given to riders, whatever their level, is very important as it greatly influences their view of riding.  Well-schooled horses, good quality tack and equipment and pleasant surroundings and organisation by fully-qualified staff are the trump cards of our equestrian centre, which is dedicated to a common passion:  horsemanship.

We believe it is even more important to give a good welcome to beginners because the first experience will stay fixed in the rider's mind for the rest of his life.  Every rider remembers the first time he rode a horse;  everyone has a story to tell, often jokingly as many of them accept afterwards that it could have gone better .

At the La Landelle Equestrian Centre, a session lasts an hour and a half.  Everyone is greeted and introduced to each other.  They are shown the tack room so they can choose a hard hat (these are cycling helmet-style and are very light and ventilated).  Experienced riders prepare their horses under the watchful eye of the instructor who is ready to give any advice required.

The beginners horses will already have been prepared and the time is used for a theory class where the main safety rules are explained.  Basic instruction is given on the best way to lead a horse, to take it in the school and out on a ride.

The horses are used to being out in the field together all year round.  Thus they establish a group spirit where the dominant and dominated are present.  It is the instructor's job to note this and to take account of the pecking order that has been established.

After this first part, each rider goes to the horse that has been allocated to him by the instructor.  For those who ride throughout the year, a different horse will be offered each week in order to progress and to avoid getting too used to one horse.  Clearly there will be favourites but it is equally important for the rider to assess himself by comparing what he has learnt and the difficulties he has encountered with each horse.

Mounting up takes place in the school having checked the girths and made sure that the horses have been tacked up correctly.  The beginners are assisted individually by the instructor and placed in order.  Before going out, there is always a short practice which allows horse and rider to get to know each other in an enclosed area! The riders then go out, accompanied by the instructor.  We take a maximum of 6 people for a ride in the forest, walking with some trotting.  There are rides using all three paces for experienced riders.

Finally, on returning from the ride or at the end of the lesson, each rider looks after his horse and the instructor discusses the session.  After everyone has washed their horse¹s bit and returned the tack to the tack room, they are invited for a drink at the club house.

Proficiency courses are on offer as well as courses to try out different equestrian activities such as TREC, dressage and rides of several days.
